Who: Amy and Jalen
What: The sap, it burns!
Where: Rainbow's End
When: Wednesday Night, June 6th
Clad in her pjs, Amy sat up in bed, covers pulled over her bent knees as she rested her folded arms on them, following Jalen with her eyes as he undressed. This was her favorite part of their nightly ritual; Eli put to bed, just the two of them alone with time to talk before they slept.
Jalen glanced over his shoulder at her before tugging off his shirt.
"Something on your mind?"
"Just enjoying the view."
He laughed as he tossed his shirt over a chair.
"That's all?"
"Uh huh. Well, that and waiting to see if you fall over trying to get your jeans off, like last time."
"Ha ha."
To her disappointment, he managed to strip down to his boxers without incident before throwing his jeans on top of the shirt and joining her in bed. She leaned over and kissed his forehead.
"Sweet dreams, my Jale."
He smiled and kissed her nose. "Have better ones."
Amy settled onto her back as Jalen turned over and shut off his lamp. The room fell into a soft dimness, with faint moonlight pooling on the floor. She felt him shift, trying to get comfortable, until he settled on facing the door. Usually at this point, Amy would follow suit and fling an arm over him (Sometimes a leg too if she was feeling particularly possessive that night), but instead she remained as she was, head turned to watch the curtains flutter in the light breeze. A few more seconds of silence passed before Jalen spoke.
"Missing Mabry?"
"Yeah. It's weird around here without her."
"Is everything okay with Song?"
That- Yeah. "It's good."
Jalen rolled over to face her, propping himself up on one arm.
"So what else is bothering you?"
Amy kept her head turned away, focused on the curtains.
"You're great with Ashlyn and Larkin, you know. They just love their uncle Jale."
"Yeah..." His voice was wistful.
"...You're getting one of your own soon."
More silence, a long one this time. Then the bed shook as Jalen scrambled to turn the light back on and face his wife. She sat up, pushing her hair out of her face.
"How did this happen?"
Amy couldn't help laughing at the expression of surprise on his face. It was priceless.
"I don't have a damn clue! But there it is, and-"
She was cut off as he suddenly hugged her tight. After a moment she managed to pat the back of his neck awkwardly.
"...Air."
He loosened his grip before kissing her gently.
"Still want to go with Elena Megan?"
Amy beamed at him. She loved it when he remembered the really important things.
"Yep." She yawned, reaching up to rub at an eye before groaning. "Forgot to take my damn glasses off. No wonder I could see the curtains so well."
Jalen snickered, gently easing them off her face before placing them on his own nightstand.
"Heeey..."
"You can have them back in the morning, now go to sleep."
"As you command, oh Great Warrior Tuna."
Instead of obediently lying down, she flung herself on him instead, knocking him onto his back.
"Now this seems familiar," He teased, and got (lightly) punched in the shoulder for it.
"Shush. Turn out the light."
He managed after a bit of a reach, then wrapped his arms around her.
"Sweet dreams, Saelig."
Amy smiled into the curve of his neck and closed her eyes.
